West Virginia University coaches have been surrounding the Baltimore area looking for future Mountaineers. That search has brought the WVU coaching staff back to Dunbar High School (Dunbar, Md.) and linebacker Marvin Gross.
Dunbar has been good to the Mountaineers over the last few years. Will WVU strike gold again?
In recent years, WVU has pulled Tavon Austin and Deontay McManus from the Poets system. Both were highly rated players by recruiting services. The talent pool at Dunbar appears to be flowing well with several Poets on the WVU radar.
With Gross, WVU has found someone capable of playing rush end, and lineback. At 6 foot 4 and 220 pounds, he is athletic enough to play close to the line or drop in coverage.
Gross is bring recruited by cornerbacks coach Daron Roberts.
He will have a busy summer with camps and touring with the Next Level Nation.
"At the beginning of July I'm going on a tour with Next Level. We're going to be going to several colleges and one-day camps," Gross explained. "There will be 7-on-7's and things like that, too."
"I know we're going up to Ohio and hitting a couple of schools up there. We're going to West Virginia and some other schools in between, too," he noted.
Gross says WVU, Wake Forest, Washington, and Purdue have been recruiting him hardest.
"I'm trying to keep everything open right now," he said. "I'll probably start thinking about (favorites) towards the end of the season after I get everything done with my high school team."
Gross isn't expected to make a decision anytime soon.
He reports offers from Wake Forrest, UConn, Rutgers, Purdue, and Colorado to name a few. One school to keep an eye on for Gross is Washington.
