wvu_helmet_on_fieldWith kids all across the country attending camps and taking vacations before the new season, recruiting can sometimes be slow during the summer months as kids wait until the season to take official visits. For the Mountaineers, seven guys have already made the call to play for the Gold and Blue.

Here is a review of verbal commits to the 2013 class, and some kids to keep an eye on.

marcelllazardThe Mountaineers first verbal commitment of the 2013 class came from big offensive lineman, Marcell Lazard. Standing at 6-foot-6, and 293 pounds, Lazard is rated a 3-star by both Scout and Rivals. He visited Ohio State and they almost secured a commitment, but he wanted to talk with his parents before making a final decision. That decision led the talented big man to Morgantown. He had offers from Ohio State, Florida, Miami(FL), South Carolina, and Michigan just to name a few. Date: 4/21/12

hodarichristianThe West Virginia coaching staff has reeled in their third commitment for the 2013 class with linebacker Hodari Christian. Standing 6-foot, 210 pounds, he is rated a 3-star by both Rivals and Scout. Known for his speed and athleticism, Christian was targeted by the coaching staff as a perfect fit in the new 3-4 defensive scheme. It's believed he'll be targeted as the linebacker, hybrid defender to roam the entire field. He had offers from Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, and Northwestern to name a few. 5/11/12

chavasrawlinsThe fourth commit came from duel-threat signal caller Chavas Rawlins. The 6-foot-4, 190 quartberback chose the Mountaineers over Tennessee and Duke. He recently trimmed his list to those three schools after sorting through almost a 20 offers. The fact the Rawlins will be the only quarterback recruit in class also played into his commitment. He's already visited Morgantown once during the spring and was able to view a practice session. He hopes to visit again during the summer. Rivals and Scout lists him as a 3-star recruit. He had offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee to name a few. 5/18/12
