The Big 12 conference made an official announcement on Thursday regarding their search for a new commissioner, deciding on Stanford athletic director Bob Bowlsby.

The conference had been served the last seven months under interim commissioner, Chuck Neinas. Neinas replaced Dan Beebe, who was ousted last September.

Bowlsby finds himself leading a BCS conference that appears to be stronger than ever.

After losing four schools over the past couple years, the league goes into the fall with 10 members, including new additions West Virginia and TCU.. The conference is also potentially looking at the idea of further expansion, and negotiating a new television deal.

Bowlsby has spent the last 6 years at Stanford. He will assume duties in his new role, officially, on June 15.
