damiennicholsonIf you follow WVU cornerbacks coach Daron Roberts on twitter, you know he has been searching far and wide for college football's next "Honey Badger."

The trail has led Roberts to Osbourn High School in Manassas, Virginia. There you will find, Damian Nicholson.

WVU offered Nicholson on Thursday, and some say the Mountaineers feel they've found their Honey Badger.

Recruiting experts praise Nicholson for his work ethic, and being an overall great kid. He has good quickness, speed, and toughness. WVU is recruiting him to play the corner position.

Nicholson is a 5 foot 11, 180 pound athlete capable of playing multiple positions.

When asked about the current Honey Badger, Tyrann Mathieu, he didn't shy away from the comparison.

"That's what I do. I'm a playmaker; I make plays happen," says Nicholson. "A lot of people tell me I have [Mathieu's] integrity and how I play ball, I like to get stuff done. I'm smart on the field."

As a junior, he played quarterback due to the starter being out with an injury. He still had over 900 yards passing, 900 yards rushing, and had 28 touchdowns.

imagesCAXR0KI0The fact that WVU is the first school to offer Nicholson helps, but it's his relationship with a past Mountaineer Brandon Hogan that means more.

"I'm basically related to him, that's a close friend of mine," Nicholson says of Hogan. "I've known him since I was in diapers. We played in the same football league growing up, so before he left for college I was really close with him."

Nicholson says he will visit the University City this summer to get a feel of the school and acdemics.

For now, he says it feels good just to be wanted.

It's really important because as everybody says, the first one is the hardest to get and then they all start piling in. I really like West Virginia as a school, though," says Nicholson. "It feels really good to know somebody wants you."

Sounds like WVU is hot on the trail of the Badger.
