The West Virginia University football staff just wrapped up the final camp before the start of the 2012 season. One of those visitors in attendance was current Duke commit Evertt Edwards. Althought he is committed to the Blue Devils, he remains open to his recruitment, one that will probably last until signing day.
Edwards, 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds brings very good zone and man coverage skills to the field, in addition to being a tough run defender. Has the size and athleticism for the corner back position, and has a frame that can add additional size.
The Woodbridge High School (Va) cornerback committed to the Blue Devils in March.
He has been clocked in the 40 at 4.42 and had a stellar junior season. Edwards recorded 40 tackles, seven pass breakups, six interceptions, and caught 16 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns.
Edwards is keeping all of his options open, something his taught him at a early age.
"I'm happy with the decision I made," Edwards explained. "My parents have just told me from a young age, 'Options, options, options. The more options you'll have the better off you'll be. I'll live and die by that."
Edwards claims offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech, Wake Forrest and Pittsburgh to name a few. He's received interest from Florida, Stanford, Tennessee and North Carolina.
With all of these schools coming at him, you can't blame him for staying open.
"I'm still committed to Duke," Edwards said. "I'm evaluating all of my options. I'm pretty happy with the decision I made. You have to look at the other schools that are recruiting me just to know what's going on with them."
Edwards is rated three-star recruit by Rivals and is ranked the nation's No. 48 cornerback and the No. 19 prospect in Virginia. Hehopes to major in International Business and Policy.
